The annual festival sees the largest collection of racers, car clubs and music events in the UK. On track events included the Murray Walker Memorial Trophy Masters Historic Formula 1, The 65th Anniversary Jaguar E-type race (including father and son team Martin and Alex Brundle), and many other events dating from pre-war, to the last set of specifications from the Le Mans Endurance Series.
Off track, appearances from motoring illuminati such as Richard Hammond and Mike Brewer were almost enough to steal the show from the many car clubs in attendance. But in a world where the car truly is the star, the roll call of motoring and track racing entrants were the main event.
Track parades were also held each day, including the largest fleet of Triumph Stag’s that anyone may have seen, and a rare collection of 18 DeLorean’s with not a single flux capacitor in sight.
The music main stage was headlined by Silverstone event alumni Scouting for Girls, and music went on into the night on both the Friday and Saturday night.
The true highlight for the hardcore Formula 1 fan was Damon Hill’s demonstration run in the Williams FW18 he won the 1996 FIA Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship in. With engine notes that put even Lewis Hamilton’s AMG Mercedes to shame today, the stands were filled with nostalgia of the British Grand Prix 25 years ago.
The venue was gleaming, looking more and more the world class circuit it is as the hotel continues to take shape on the Hamilton Straight. This was matched by everything from the Race Makers, Marshalls, and facility staff who live and breathe motorsport. A tip of the hat to Silverstone Circuit, who make sure that every event is run like the headliner of the season.
